El viernes 17 de julio acaba de publicar su nuevo disco, ‘Beyond the Pale’ como JARV IS junio, en todas las plataformas de streaming y a la venta.

“Running the World” está editada por PIAS.

          HIMNOS SIN QUERERLO

Jarvis Cocker tiene carisma. Algo que se tiene o no se tiene. No solo por haber liderado Pulp, una de las bandas más impresionantes del pop contemporáneo. Ni por su forma de bailar y su estética. Sino simplemente porque aporta, crea y posee criterio. Ya sea por coherencia y decidir cerrar filas con Pulp, pasar a un segundo plano y salir de la escena pública, para dedicarse a editar o seguir con la música con Relaxed Muscle (‘A Heavy Night with… en 2003), como Jarvis Cocker (‘Jarvis’ (2006) y ‘Further Complications’ en 2009), junto a Chilly Gonzales en el magnífico disco de cámara (casi reducido a piano y voz) ‘Room 29’ publicado por uno de los sellos insignia de la música clásica como Deutsche Gramophon, o ahora con JARV IS, con un disco de 7 canciones de canciones abiertas al pop más libre (“Save the Whale”), a lo crooner (“Chuildren of the Echo” me recuerda por momentos a Leonard Cohen) y al baile (“Must I Evolve?”, “Am I Missing Something?” o “House Music All Night Long”). El periodista David Saavedra entrevistaba hace poco a Jarvis para ICON.

En otoño 2019 el cuarteto alemán Kaiser Quartet grabó una versión de cámara del single “Running the World” grabado por Javirs Cocker en 2006. En diciembre Jarvis Cocker compartió la canción para respaldar una campaña de protesta contra la situación política, social y medioamenbiental para que la canción fuera número 1 en Navidades, además todos los ingresos fueron a la organización benéfica Shelter. Los fans Michael Hall y Darcie Molina promovieron una campaña en Facebook para promover la “inclusividad, representación, amor, aceptación y bondad”, por la reelección del gobierno conservador en Inglaterra, con el verso “Cunts are still Running the World” como elemento central.

La canción original de 2006 construida con un teclado inicial como base, ampliada después con banda (bajo, batería y guitarra) recogía ese pulso vital de cambios, de cuestionarse. En esta nueva versión los arreglos de Kaiser Quartet son majestuosos: embellecen una balada con una letra que incita a la acción. Cocker con su habitual verbo, sorna, critica el libre mercado, y la manera de cómo nos tratan como imbéciles “¡Que fastidien a la moral! ¿O eso da dinero? Si no te gusta entonces vete. O usa tu derecho para protestar en la calle. Pero no pienses que serás escuchado”, dice en la canción. Es un himno sin querer serlo. De esos himnos que sirven para impulsarnos. De los que muestran la necesidad de una posición crítica para avanzar.
